SOUL TRAIN SPECIAL

I feel like I was on Soul Train last night. I kinda was. Or the closest thing I’ve ever found in NYC that pairs classic soul and R&B with a mighty fine dance floor.
Born out of Felix Hernandez’s radio show (catch it on WBGO FM), the Rhythm Revue dances started in 1991 and hold steady some 21 years later.
- The music is real good, period.
- The crowd — average age was 55 or so — gets down.
- And there was popping and locking!
My friend Marie, a professional breakdancer, even ran into two friends (I snagged a blurry shot of em below) who tore it up with their popping and locking.
There is something amazing about sharing the dance floor with old souls.
